- 15 bank holidays in September 2025 across India
- Holidays vary by state and local festivals
- Plan banking tasks early to avoid last-minute issues
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued the list of bank holidays for September 2025, and this time, banks will remain closed on 15 different days across various states. These holidays include weekends, major festivals, and region-specific events. Customers are advised to check their state-wise schedule before visiting branches to avoid inconvenience.
Bank holidays in India do not apply uniformly across all states. While banks may be open in one region, they could remain closed in another due to local festivals or observances. Hence, verifying the holiday list for your state is important before planning essential transactions.
According to the notification, the holiday calendar begins with Karma Puja on September 3 in Jharkhand, followed by First Onam on September 4 in Kerala. On September 5, Eid-e-Milad and Thiruvonam will keep banks closed in multiple states including Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. The next day, September 6, also marks closures in Sikkim and Chhattisgarh for Eid-e-Milad and Indrajatra.
The usual Sunday holiday on September 7 follows, while September 12 brings closures in Jammu and Srinagar for Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi. As per rules, the second Saturday on September 13 and Sunday, September 14 will also be holidays.
Later in the month, September 21 (Sunday) will be a nationwide holiday. On September 22, banks in Rajasthan will remain closed for Navratri Sthapana. September 23 marks Maharaja Hari Singh Ji Jayanti, affecting Jammu and Srinagar branches. The fourth Saturday on September 27 and Sunday, September 28 are routine closures across India.
Towards the end of the month, festive holidays increase in eastern states. On September 29, banks will remain closed in Tripura, Assam, and West Bengal for Maha Saptami and Durga Puja. Finally, September 30 will see widespread closures in Tripura, Odisha, Manipur, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal for Maha Ashtami/Durga Ashtami celebrations.
With so many closures, customers are urged to complete urgent transactions like cash deposits, withdrawals, and cheque clearances ahead of time. While online banking, ATMs, and UPI services will remain operational, planning ahead is key to avoiding last-minute hassles.
