Bengaluru : In a major crackdown on illegal encroachments, the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) conducted an operation in Banashankari 2nd Stage, reclaiming public land worth ₹35 crore. The land, designated for public use, had been encroached upon for several years, prompting the authorities to take strict action.

The operation, which commenced at 9 AM on Thursday, targeted illegal structures built on 19 guntas of land in Survey No. 15/1 of Katriguppe village, Uttarahalli Hobli. The BDA team, using JCB machines, demolished unauthorized sheds, garages, scrap shops, and even a temple that had been temporarily built on the site.

During the demolition, local residents opposed the removal of the Muneshwara temple structure. To avoid tensions, officials assured them that while the deity’s idol would not be disturbed, they could relocate it themselves. Following this, only the temple structure was dismantled, while 23 vehicles from the scrap yard were relocated elsewhere, according to Krishna Kumar, Executive Engineer of the BDA South Division.

The encroachment on this land dates back 30 years. Recently, the court granted permission to reclaim the property, leading to the demolition drive. Officials stated that a notice had been issued 15 days in advance, informing occupants about the impending action. The operation marks another step by the BDA in ensuring public land is used for its intended purpose.
