The encroachment problem is most severe in Bengaluru North, South, and East taluks. The issue is not limited to just the outskirts but also extends to urban areas.
The encroachment issue became more evident after the heavy floods in 2022, prompting the previous BJP government to order a survey of all water bodies. Following this, authorities launched efforts to remove illegal encroachments and free up the lakes for proper water flow during the monsoon season.
