CM Siddaramaiah Announces ₹10 Crore Grant for Karnataka MLAs

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced a special ₹10 crore grant for all MLAs in Karnataka as a Makar Sankranti gift. The grant will be given to legislators from all parties, including BJP and JD(S), to carry out developmental works in their constituencies.

  • CM Siddaramaiah grants ₹10 crore to all party MLAs for Makar Sankranti.
  • BJP, JD(S), and Congress legislators included in the allocation.
  • Additional grants to be considered in February for further proposals.

Bengaluru : In a significant move ahead of Makar Sankranti, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced a ₹10 crore grant for every MLA, regardless of their party affiliation. The announcement was made during the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting held in Bengaluru, bringing relief to legislators across the political spectrum.

Grants for All MLAs, Including BJP and JD(S) Members

CM Siddaramaiah addressed concerns raised during the winter session held in Belagavi, where opposition leaders, especially from the BJP, expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in fund allocation. In response, the Chief Minister assured that all MLAs, including those from BJP and JD(S), would receive an equal grant of ₹10 crore to carry out developmental projects in their constituencies.

This move has been seen as a strategic step to maintain harmony among lawmakers, irrespective of their political affiliations, and to ensure that all constituencies receive adequate development funding.

CLP Meeting Insights: Addressing Fund Allocation Concerns

During the Congress Legislative Party meeting on Monday evening, several MLAs raised concerns about the lack of adequate funds to undertake development projects. Responding to these concerns, Siddaramaiah clarified that he had already signed the necessary documents to release the grants.

“I have approved the grant of ₹10 crore per MLA, not just for Congress members but for everyone. This decision ensures that no constituency is left behind,” Siddaramaiah said during the meeting.

However, some MLAs expressed dissatisfaction, stating that the allocated ₹10 crore is insufficient for large-scale development work. They urged the Chief Minister to release additional funds.

Siddaramaiah acknowledged their concerns and assured them that additional funds could be requested during the upcoming budget session in February. “For now, utilize the ₹10 crore grant. If more funds are required, submit your proposals in February, and we will allocate additional funds in the 2025-26 budget,” he assured the MLAs.

Party Discipline and High Command’s Role

During the meeting, Congress in-charge Randeep Surjewala emphasized the importance of maintaining party discipline. He instructed MLAs and ministers to avoid making public statements that could harm the party’s image. “Whatever issues you have, discuss them within the party framework, behind closed doors,” he advised.

CM Siddaramaiah supported Surjewala’s directive, stating that all matters concerning governance and development would be reported to the party high command. “We must follow the instructions from the high command. Let’s stay united and focus on delivering results for the people,” he said.

A Strategic Move for Political Stability

The decision to allocate funds to all MLAs, including those from opposition parties, is seen as a strategic move by Siddaramaiah to maintain political stability and ensure smooth governance. By addressing concerns over fund allocation, the Karnataka government aims to promote equitable development across the state.

With the state assembly elections a few years away, such initiatives are expected to build goodwill among legislators and strengthen the government’s standing among the people.

This announcement also comes at a crucial time, as Karnataka gears up for major budget discussions in February 2025, where additional funds are likely to be allocated for infrastructure and welfare schemes.

Conclusion

CM Siddaramaiah’s ₹10 crore grant announcement is a timely gesture aimed at fostering political unity and addressing developmental concerns across Karnataka. By ensuring equal fund distribution, the government aims to create a level playing field for all constituencies, irrespective of political affiliations.

As Karnataka prepares for the upcoming budget session, all eyes will be on the government’s plans to further boost developmental activities and address the concerns raised by legislators.
