Airtel Stuns Users by Dropping Popular ₹249 Recharge Plan

Airtel has officially discontinued its ₹249 recharge plan from August 20, 2025, leaving users disappointed. The entry-level pack was widely popular for its affordability and daily data benefits.
- Airtel ends ₹249 recharge plan effective August 20
- Plan offered 1GB/day, unlimited calls, 100 SMS for 24 days
- Customers express disappointment over loss of budget option
Airtel customers have been left disappointed after the telecom giant decided to discontinue its popular ₹249 recharge plan. Effective from August 20, 2025, the plan has been officially removed from both online and offline recharge platforms, meaning users will no longer be able to subscribe to it.
The ₹249 plan had earned a strong following among students, homemakers, and small-scale employees who relied on it as a cost-effective entry-level pack. It provided 1GB of data per day, unlimited voice calls, and 100 SMS messages daily, all with a validity of 24 days.
Users across the country are voicing frustration on social media, criticizing the company for taking away one of its most affordable daily data plans. Many argue that with rising tariffs across telecom operators, removing such a low-cost option adds to the financial burden of budget-conscious customers.

The plan’s popularity stemmed from its short validity period and low recharge amount, which made it easier for those who could not afford longer, higher-priced packs. Its withdrawal now forces users to look for alternative plans that are significantly more expensive.
Industry experts note that Airtel’s move closely follows Reliance Jio’s recent tariff adjustments, suggesting that telecom operators are aligning strategies to increase average revenue per user (ARPU). However, for millions of customers, this change has come as a shock.
