Jio Discontinues Daily 1GB Data Plan, Customers Left With Costlier Options

Jio has quietly withdrawn its daily 1GB data prepaid plan, forcing customers to switch to higher-priced options starting at ₹299, sparking concerns over rising mobile expenses and affordability.

  • Jio withdraws 1GB daily data plan with unlimited calls
  • Customers must now opt for ₹299 pack with 1.5GB per day
  • Older ₹249 plan users will spend ₹50 more each month

India’s largest telecom operator, Reliance Jio, has stopped offering its popular 1GB daily data prepaid plan. Until recently, this pack provided users with 1GB data per day, unlimited calls, and 100 SMS per day for 28 days. Now, it is no longer part of Jio’s official recharge portfolio.

Higher Costs for Consumers

The withdrawal means customers who previously subscribed to the ₹249 plan will now have to spend at least ₹299 for 28 days of service. The new base daily data plan offers 1.5GB per day, unlimited calling, and 100 SMS. This effectively raises costs by ₹50 for the same validity period.

The Alternatives Still Available

Jio continues to provide a value pack priced at ₹189, which includes unlimited calling, 2GB total data, and 300 SMS for 28 days. While this plan is cheaper, it does not cater to users who require daily data allowances. As a result, heavy smartphone users may feel compelled to opt for pricier options.

Retailers Still Offering the Plan?

According to a TelecomTalk report, a source familiar with Jio’s plans suggested that the 1GB daily data option may still be available through offline retailers and recharge shops. However, the plan has disappeared from Jio’s official listings, making its return uncertain.

Why Jio Took This Step

Industry analysts believe this move could help Jio increase its average revenue per user (ARPU) in the second quarter of the 2025 financial year. By removing lower-cost daily data packs, the company is encouraging customers to recharge more frequently or shift towards higher-value plans, thereby boosting revenue.
