Bengaluru : The long-awaited 2019 Karnataka State Film Awards were announced on Wednesday, recognizing some of the best talents in the Kannada film industry. Actor Sudeep and actress Anupama Gowda were honored with the titles of Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively, for their exceptional performances.

Sudeep won the Best Actor award for his remarkable role in the film Pailwaan, a movie where he showcased his versatility. Anupama Gowda received the Best Actress award for her brilliant performance in the thriller Trayambakam, where she captivated audiences with her powerful acting.

The award for Best Film went to the renowned director P. Sheshadri’s Mohanadas. Meanwhile, Love Mocktail, directed by Darling Krishna, and Aghyam claimed the second and third positions as the Best Films of the year. Darling Krishna, along with Milana Nagaraj, also received the Best Screenplay Award for Love Mocktail, while Raghu Dikshit earned the Best Playback Singer (Male) award for his contribution to the film.

Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar’s India vs England was declared the Best Popular Entertainment Film, while Kanneri stood out as the Best Socially Relevant Film. In the music category, Yajamana, starring Darshan, won V. Harikrishna the Best Music Director award for his composition.

Interestingly, while the 2018 Karnataka State Film Awards had been announced, the award ceremony had not been conducted due to various reasons. The delay continued in subsequent years because of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the awards only being held in 2024 during the 15th Bengaluru International Film Festival’s opening. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also announced the formation of a committee to officially present the 2019 awards.

These accolades not only celebrate artistic excellence but also reflect the vibrant culture of Kannada cinema, which continues to thrive despite challenges.
