Cloudburst in Jammu and Kashmir Kills Four, Triggers Flash Floods

A sudden cloudburst in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir caused flash floods, leaving four dead and several injured. Railway tracks, highways, and police facilities suffered heavy damage in the deluge.

Jammu and Kashmir witnessed yet another natural disaster as a sudden cloudburst struck a remote village near Janglot in Kathua district on Sunday. The powerful downpour triggered flash floods that swept through the area, leaving at least four people dead and several others injured.
The impact of the floods was devastating. Railway tracks, sections of National Highway-44, and even parts of the Kathua police station were badly damaged. The sheer force of the water caught many residents off guard, while local authorities rushed to provide emergency assistance.

Police, along with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), joined locals in rescue and relief operations. Efforts were made to shift stranded families to safer locations and provide immediate medical attention to the injured.
Union Minister and Udhampur MP Jitendra Singh spoke with Kathua Superintendent of Police Shobhit Saxena over the phone to assess the situation. He expressed concern over the losses and assured full support for relief measures.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed his sorrow over the tragedy and urged local authorities to intensify rescue operations. Officials have been instructed to ensure rapid relief and rehabilitation for the affected families.
This incident comes just days after a similar cloudburst in Kishtwar district claimed over 60 lives, highlighting the growing vulnerability of the region to sudden extreme weather events.
