Weather Alert for North India, Dense Fog in Delhi and Rainfall Expected in Karnataka

North India braces for fluctuating weather as rising temperatures, heavy rainfall, dense fog, and cold waves affect Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and surrounding areas, with snow expected in mountainous regions.

As temperatures rise in North India, residents are bracing for a unique blend of weather conditions. While Delhi experiences an increase in minimum temperatures, dense fog is adding to the chill in the air, making it feel colder than expected. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature at the Safdarjung Observatory on Wednesday was recorded at 6.4°C, up from 5.6°C on Tuesday. This is still 2°C below the normal range. Despite the rising minimum temperatures, the daytime heat is noticeable, making it feel warmer.

The department has forecast the development of two fresh western disturbances, which are expected to bring a mix of rain, fog, and cold waves to several regions of North India in the next 24 to 48 hours. These disturbances are likely to impact the plains and mountainous regions of the country, with widespread effects.

Western Disturbances Triggering Weather Changes

According to weather experts, from January 29, two active western disturbances are expected to affect the region. The first disturbance will begin to show its impact on the western Himalayan region starting January 29, while the second disturbance will become active by February 1. These disturbances are predicted to bring snow to the mountains and rain to the plains, leading to a significant dip in temperatures in Delhi, NCR, and surrounding areas.

Rainfall and Cold Waves Expected

Delhi and NCR are likely to experience heavy rainfall between January 29 and February 1, which will lead to a further drop in temperatures and increase the cold intensity. Additionally, Punjab, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh are also expected to receive rainfall. Despite the occasional mild sunshine during the day, the cold will persist, causing discomfort. By the weekend, a further dip in temperatures is expected, leading to colder conditions in Delhi and nearby areas.

Fog and Cold Waves to Hit Several States

The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for cold waves in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, with these conditions expected to last until February 2. In addition, dense fog is expected to engulf Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Odisha, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Assam, and Meghalaya until January 31. This will result in reduced visibility, potentially disrupting travel and daily activities.

Heavy Rainfall Across Multiple States

Between January 30 and February 1, heavy rainfall is expected in Punjab, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. Jammu and Kashmir, along with Himachal Pradesh, will also experience snow and rain during this period, leading to even colder conditions in the mountainous regions. As the weather continues to change, North India will face a combination of increasing temperatures, rainfall, and cold waves, keeping residents on their toes.
