Mysuru’s Udayagiri area, which witnessed unrest on Monday night due to an offensive social media post, has now returned to normal, according to ADGP (Law and Order) Hitendra. Heavy police security remains in place, with senior officials stationed at the scene.
Incident and Police Action
The unrest began after police arrested a man for posting an offensive poster on social media. As he was brought to the Udayagiri police station, a group of youths gathered outside, fearing his release. Misunderstandings led to protests, prompting police to use mild force, including a lathi charge, to control the situation. Stones were reportedly thrown, leading to the deployment of tear gas. By midnight, the situation was under control.
ADGP’s Inspection & Investigation
ADGP Jeetendra visited the Udayagiri police station on Tuesday morning to assess the situation. Speaking to the media, he confirmed that thousands had protested against the offensive post and that some individuals had resorted to violence, injuring seven police officers. A special police team has been formed to arrest those responsible. Authorities are also investigating if any organization was behind the violence.
Security Measures in Place
With the situation now calm, heavy police security continues in Udayagiri. Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, along with ACPs, remains stationed in the area to ensure peace. Investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for inciting violence.
