She suffered serious injuries to her face and body, forcing her parents to rush her to a district hospital and later shift her to a private facility in Davangere. Her condition briefly improved after treatment, but within weeks she began showing signs of illness again. Alarmed, her parents admitted her to Bengaluru’s Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, where doctors confirmed rabies infection. Despite intensive care in the ICU, the girl’s health continued to decline. Medical experts from Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health in Bengaluru stated that the child showed unusual symptoms of rabies that did not match typical aggressive patterns. The hospital clarified that no charges were taken from the family during treatment, though expenses may have been incurred earlier at private hospitals. Doctors explained that the child required emergency intubation in August when her condition worsened. Unfortunately, all efforts failed, and she passed away on Sunday, leaving her family and the community devastated. This incident has raised fresh concerns in Karnataka over the growing number of stray dog attacks and the urgent need for effective rabies control measures across the state.
