Airtel Shocks Users by Removing Data Benefits from 2 Popular Plans

Airtel shocks users by removing data benefits from its ₹509 and ₹1999 prepaid plans, making separate data recharges essential. Here's what has changed and how it impacts your recharge choices.

  • Airtel removes data benefits from ₹509 and ₹1999 prepaid plans.
  • Plans now focus on calls, SMS, and added perks like Apollo 24|7.
  • Users need separate data packs for internet access.

Bharti Airtel, India’s second-largest telecom operator, has surprised its customers with a significant update to its prepaid plans. The company has permanently removed the data benefits from two of its popular recharge options, priced at ₹509 and ₹1999.

This change means users of these plans will no longer enjoy bundled internet access and will need to purchase separate data packs.

Effectively, this makes the ₹509 and ₹1999 plans more expensive for those who rely on mobile data. Here’s a breakdown of the changes:

Jio Prepaid Plans: Affordable Options with Long Validity

Airtel ₹509 Prepaid Plan: Then vs. Now

  • Now: The ₹509 plan offers 84 days of validity, unlimited voice calls, and 100 SMS per day. Additional perks include a free Hello Tune subscription and access to Apollo 24|7 services.
  • Before: Previously, this plan also included 6GB of data alongside unlimited calls and 100 daily SMS, making it a better value for users needing internet.

Airtel ₹1999 Prepaid Plan: Then vs. Now

  • Now: This long-term plan offers a full year (365 days) of validity, unlimited calls, and 100 SMS per day. Additional benefits, such as a Hello Tune subscription and Apollo 24|7 membership, remain included.
  • Before: Earlier, this plan came with 24GB of data, in addition to unlimited calls and daily SMS. It was ideal for users needing occasional internet access over the year.

What This Means for Users

The removal of data benefits significantly impacts Airtel’s prepaid plans, especially for customers who rely on bundled internet. Those looking to maintain their current usage levels will need to spend extra on standalone data packs.

While the revised plans may still suit users who focus on calls and messaging, they’re less appealing for customers with moderate to heavy data requirements. For now, Airtel users will have to weigh the cost of separate data recharges when opting for these plans.
